A KNUZDEN man who ignored a council enforcement notice to remove unsafe vehicles from outside his house has been ordered to pay over £1,600 in fines and costs.
Imtiaz Khawaja, 33, appeared before Hyndburn magistrates and admitted ignoring council requests to clean up the land at the back of his house at Haslingden Old Road.
After complaints from neighbours investigations by planning officers revealed that he had ignored a previous enforcement notice and was again storing damaged vehicles.
Mr Khawaja was fined £1,000, ordered to pay £570 prosecution costs with £15 victim surcharge. He was also fined £25 for failing to surrender to bail on 28 October.
Magistrates said that Khawaja had demonstrated persistent and deliberate non-compliance which had resulted in a nuisance to neighbours and a potential safety hazard.
Councillor Peter Clarke, cabinet member for environmental issues, said: "Neighbours should not have to put up with this kind of blight near their homes. Where people ignore notices we will always take them to court and in this case he has ended up having to pay over £1,600, even though he was given plenty of opportunity to request a time extension to remove the vehicles."
