A mother was left terrified after a car crashed into her garden.

Jackie Taylor was asleep at her home on Burnley Road in Accrington when a black Toyota Avensis taxi collided with her neighbour's parked blue Chevrolet Spark in the early hours of Boxing Day.

The crash spun the Chevrolet off the road into her garden and left the taxi damaged in the middle of the road.

Jackie, 45, who was inside the house along with her 21-year-old son, said they were lucky the car did not crash into their house.

She said: “I heard a loud noise and thought it was someone trying to break in. When I opened the front door there was a car in the garden.

“There was a taxi and it had three passengers inside and he had been coming down Burnley Road and hit my neighbour's car.

“It damaged my gate and fence and if it wasn't for a large tree in my garden the car could have come through my house.

“I'm just glad nobody was hurt.”

Lancashire Police confirmed they were called to the scene on December 26 at around 5.45am.

A spokesman said: “There were two cars outside the house which have been involved in a collision.”

A 48-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.
