A horse which got stuck in an Oswaldtwistle field yesterday was rescued by 15 firefighters.
The horse was trapped in a midden, a mix of muck and straw, which had been dumped in a field away from its stable.
The land is owned by charity Only Foals and Horses based on Redshell Lane. Firefighters, including two specialist crews, were called out at 9.50am on Monday.
Liam Barker, watch manager, at Hyndburn Fire Station, said: "The horse had found its way on to the midden. I don't know how long it had been there but it had got trapped.
"The rescue took a lot of manpower and around two hours. We did it through brute forece in the end - using tools attached to rope. It was tired once we got it out."
He added: "We are getting these incidents more and more. Horses some times fall asleep and can't get up because they have rolled over and got stuck."
The fire teams left the horse in the care of a vet.
Only Foals and Horses works to rescue some of the very young foals and older horses who are at great risk each year of mistreatment and neglect.
