A four-month-old foal had to be rescued by firefighters after falling down an eight-foot hole.
Crews from Hyndburn and Darwen used large animal rescue equipment to raise the foal trapped in part of a disused building behind Express Gifts in Church.
Liam Wilson, Hyndburn station manager, said: “It had fallen down a disused pit which formed part of a derelict building off Peel Bank. It had dropped about eight feet.
“We managed to hoist it clear and it was safe and well.”
Mr Wilson said the foal had fled from a local farm and was later returned uninjured to its owner..
He said: “It had somehow found its way out of an adjacent field. We got in contact with the owner who turned up on site and collected the foal.
“Other than being cold and wet it was fine.”
The incident happened at around 11am on Tuesday, November 11 and the crews were on site for around one hour.
