FAMILY and friends gathered at Accrington's Oaklea Club to present cheques to two charities in memory of caring Katharyn Scambler.

Representatives from Macmillan Nurses and CAFOD, the two charities Katharyn supported, were given cheques for £335 each by her sister, Joan Beard, and close friend Christine Fenton.

The money had been raised from a fun-packed charity event at the club two weeks ago, which featured a raffle and live entertainment and was attended by more than 150 people.

Katharyn died suddenly, aged 47, at her home in Willow Park, New Lane, Oswaldtwistle, last year, leaving her husband, John, and four children, Andrew, Kerry-Ann, David and Rebecca Jayne.

She worked as a triage nurse in various hospitals in the area for 29 years, and she was a partner in the Willow Nursing Agency, which she formed in the year before her death.
