A running team in Accrington are lacing up their trainers once again to raise awareness of a missing man.

The Headless Chickens decided to reform for the Hameldon Hill race on Sunday when one of their former team mates went missing.

Trevor Whitehead disappeared on April 9 and has not been in contact with anyone since.

Nick Gaskill, 43, is part of the team that ran at the weekend.

He said: “Back in 1989, myself and a group of mates decided to set up a running team, and nearly 20 years later we decided to reform for this race.

“We’ve had our team tshirts remade and had ‘Where are you Trev?’ printed on the back of them.

“We won the Hambeldon Hill non attached team race for three consecutive years.”

Nick, who runs a garage in Great Harworth said there had been plans to bring the Headless Chickens back together before Trevor went missing.

“Trevor had been in to get a quote on his car a few weeks before he disappeared, and he said how great it would be to get the old team back running together again.

“Myself, David Pilling and Stephen Beardsworth decided to take part in Sunday’s race for Trevor.

“We’re all really worried about him, I’ve shared all the stuff from the police on my Facebook page.

“He’s a nice bloke, he did a lot of wildlife photography.”

The team initially started as a joke, but soon developed into great friendships.

Nick said: “When we started running, it was for a bit of a laugh.

“The team name sort of poked fun at other running teams in the area who took it really seriously.

“But after a while we did get very competitive.

“It was something we felt we had to do again when Trevor disappeared.”
