There were backflips and acrobatics galore as award-winning gymnastics teachers took a summer school in Rishton.

More than 30 youngsters at KTZ Dance were given expert training from the Polichinelo Circus Acrobatic School, based in Liverpool.

Marcelo de Ramos, who works with Team GB and is a British champion gymnast and Guinness World Record holder, taught children aged four to 17 at the four-day summer camp.

Katie Readman, who owns KTZ Dance at the Riverside Industrial Estate, said it was a ‘big success’.

She said: “Marcelo is a fantastic acrobat and he came in all week to teach a gymnastics and acrobatic school.

“We learned about different parts of gymnastics including lifting, acrobatics, tumbling.

“We have a brand new air track at the studio now so we could do quite a few new different tricks on that and on the floor.

“We put it together with some dance and created a 25-minute piece at the end of the week for the parents.

“It’s been a big success and the one of the best summer schools we’ve ever had.

“The children have loved it and absolutely soaked up all the information and the tips they’ve shown them. The number of children we had backflipping by the end of the week was phenomenal.”

Katie has held previous summer schools in recent years on the themes of Michael Jackson and dances from around the world.
