A bus driver was assaulted by two passengers who refused to leave his bus.
Police and paramedics were called to the bus rank in Accrington town centre following reports a driver had been assaulted.
He was taken to hospital with suspected rib injuries.
A spokesman for Transdev, a bus company, said the number 23 service from Burnley to Accrington had arrived at Infant Street, Accrington at 10.25pm on Tuesday, but two passengers stayed on board.
He said: "The driver asked them to leave. They were intoxicated. The situation then got heated and he was seriously assaulted. He was taken to hospital, released, and is expected to be off work for two to three weeks."
A 38-year-old man and 47-year-old woman, both from Haslingden, have been charged with assault and bailed to appear before Blackburn Magistrates on February 24.
