Heartless thieves who burgled an 80-year-old man are being hunted by police.
The pair entered the back door of the victim’s home on Hyndburn Street, Accrington at around 11am on Wednesday, November 19 and made off with a safe containing cash.
PC Mark Nutter said: “The victim is understandably shaken after this incident, particularly as these men have had the audacity to go into his home and literally lift the safe from the floorboards.
“I am asking anyone with any information at all about this despicable crime against a vulnerable elderly man to get in contact with us.”
The offenders used distraction methods in order to confuse the victim and make off with the safe.
One offender told the victim that there had been a small explosion in the area and he was checking residents’ water supply.
He demanded the victim go and check his bathroom taps.
While the victim was distracted, a second man made his way up to one of the bedrooms and removed a metal safe containing cash, which had been bolted to the floorboards.
The first man is described as white, mid to late thirties, 5ft 9ins to 5ft 10ins, medium build, short mousey coloured hair and unshaven with dark facial hair.
He was wearing a blue and grey chequered lumberjack type jacket and jeans and spoke with a local accent.
The second man is described as white, around 30 years old, 5ft 9ins to 5ft 10ins, medium build, black curly or wavy hair, dark stubble with a moustache and a red faced complexion. He was wearing a blue and black coloured lumberjack type jacket.
