An exhibition featuring various Royal visits from the last 50 years is being created ahead of Her Majesty’s forthcoming trip to Accrington.

The Haworth Art Gallery, in partnership with the Accrington Observer is creating a Jubilee time-line exhibition chronicling the various visits made by members of the Royal Family during the last half century.

It is hoped the time-line will feature photographs taken during the events, alongside residents’ memories of the visits and newspaper cuttings from the Accrington Observer.

The gallery’s learning and access officer Yvonne Robins said the exhibition will be a wonderful way for the borough to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

She said: “The exhibit will have a real community feel to it as we are asking residents to share their memories and photographs. The Queen’s visit is something everyone is talking about and we hope this will be a way for people to celebrate the occasion with us.”

The exhibition will feature the Queen’s visit to Accrington in 1955 and visit to Rishton and Clayton-le-Moors in 1968.

It will also include memories of Princess Diana’s visit to the Joseph Arnold Factory in Church in 1983 and Prince Edward’s visit to Accrington earlier this year.

It is also being sponsored by the Accrington Camera Club and Oswaldtwistle Civic Arts. It is hoped the time-line, which will be placed in Accrington Town Hall when the Queen visits in May, will go on tour around the borough during the Jubilee year.

Yvonne added: “It’s an exciting project and we hope as many people as possible will contribute to the project.”
