TENANTS are soon to get their say on whether or not Hyndburn Council should transfer its housing stock to a private association.

If the move gets the go-ahead, the council will no longer be the landlord of its 3,500 homes and responsibility will pass to Hyndburn Homes, a non-profit making body that will form part of the Contour Housing Group.

To help residents make up their minds, an information booklet about the proposed move has now been drawn up.

This is set to go before Hyndburn Council's Cabinet for approval next Monday, but has already been given the thumbs-up by the council's Joint Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

Chairman, Councillor David Mason, said: "The booklet explains the procedures to the tenants.

"It is entirely their choice as to whether this will go ahead. They will be given the chance to vote either for or against it. When we first looked at the booklet, we felt it needed to be made clearer. Since then, we have modified it and it is now a very straightforward and clear document."

The booklet also contains contact numbers for residents to ring if they have any queries about the move.
