Amateur historians working on an oral history project about Clayton-le-Moors are keen to learn more about an old mine.
After appealing for people to come forward and share their memories of the town, project co-organisers Martin Peacock and Henderson Gibson are seeking more information about a mine called Dicky Pit.
Martin said they are not sure where it was located or when it closed. He said: “Several people have spoken about it but beyond the name Dicky Pit we don’t know a whole a lot about it.
“There may be someone who has more information and we appeal for them to come forward.”
Martin urged as many residents as possible to volunteer to be interviewed for the history archive to be published online. To date they have just over a dozen volunteers and they are keen to speak to more people.
