ACCRINGTON’S Hollie Steel will join the battle to top the charts with a Christmas number one.

The former Britain’s Got Talent contestant who famously broke down in tears during the semi-final of the TV talent show, was devastated when Simon Cowell refused to give her a record deal.

Hollie’s mum Nina, says Mr Cowell will realise he’s missed the "opportunity of a lifetime" when he hears her new single.

She wants the people of Lancashire to buy Hollie’s rendition of The Grinch’s "Where Are You Christmas?" to help her top the charts.

Nina said: "It’s a beautiful song.

"For years Hollie has watched the Grinch at Christmas, before she even appeared on Britain’s Got Talent.

"She was devastated when Simon Cowell did not give her a record deal but she’s as good as any of the contestants on this year’s X Factor. It’s a crying shame no one signed her on.

"She just wants people to hear her and if she even gets in the charts she would be ecstatic.

"When Simon hears her single he will realise he’s missed the opportunity of a lifetime."

Hollie, a pupil at Oak Hill College in Whalley, appeared on stage before BGT judges when she sang an emotional rendition of Edelweiss.

The 11-year-old from Huncoat failed to scoop a record deal but has received interest from Aussie artist Rolph Harris since her appearance.

Her older brother Joshua, is also hoping for singing success when he auditions at the next BGT series.

Nina said: "She doesn’t have what the X Factor guys have got in terms of advertising and promotion.

"But for a little girl of her age she is unbelievable " she’s got a big future.

"Lancashire is a very big place and people here can get Hollie to number one if they go out and get this single - it’s going to be out of this world."

Hollie’s single Where Are You Christmas is out on 7 December.
