AN ACCRINGTON man has been killed in a car crash in Walsall, in the West Midlands.

Hamid Mahmood, of Derby Street, was a front-seat passenger in a BMW 31B, which left the road and smashed into a factory wall, near Walsall FC's Bescot Stadium.

Mr Mahmood, 23, and driver Ghulum Abbas, 29, of Walsall, were certified dead at the scene of the tragedy, which happened shortly after 6.30am on Saturday.

A 20-year-old Walsall woman, who was a back seat passenger, was injured in the smash and had to be cut free from the wreckage.

No other vehicles were said to be involved.

Black Country Coroner Robin Balmain has opened and adjourned inquests into the two deaths.

A woman who answered the door at the family home, believed to be Mr Mahmood's sister said that he was a "good man" but she did not want to make any further comment on the tragedy.

It is understood that Mr Mahmood had only been living in England for a short period of time.
