A chimney caught fire in a house in Accrington last night.  The mid-terrace property on Empress Street, which is under renovation, was reported as alight just before 9pm.

Ten firefighters from Hyndburn Fire Station went to the blaze.

Flames spread to the roof timbers of the house and smoke affected the properties on either side of the terrace.

Firefighters used ladders and hose reels to out the fire out and spent two hours at the scene.

No-one was in at the time and the fire is being treated as an accident.
