A fundraising event held in memory of a six-month-old baby who died from suspected cot death has raised more than £1,200.
A family fun day was held at The Old England Forever pub in Clayton-le-Moors to raise funds to buy a headstone for Lucas Wheatcroft. Lucas, the son of Jane and Luke Wheatcroft, passed away suddenly on March 23 this year at their home on Moor Street in Clayton.
Jane, 26, said the fundraiser went ‘brilliantly well’ and they are now in a position to buy the headstone.
She said: “There were loads of people there. It was heaving. We managed to raise £1,221.21 which is really good.
“The weather dampened it down a little bit but it was still fantastic. All the events we had were perfect and all the kids really enjoyed themselves. We are going to put the last £600 in ourselves to buy the headstone. It is going to go in Accrington Cemetery and we want it there for his birthday on September 14.”
The event was held on Saturday, June 11 and featured a bouncy castle, face painting and appearances from popular characters Spiderman and Marshall the dog.
