Hundreds of nervous students across Hyndburn have been opening their A Level results this morning, marking the end of months of hard work.

And early indications are that there have been another record breaking set of results.

Mr Richard Jones, headteacher at St Christopher’s CE High School and Sixth Form praised his students for their hard work and excellent grades.

He said: “I am delighted with this year’s record breaking set of A-level results, a 99 per cent pass rate, A*-B grades of 60 per cent and more students accessing top Russell Group universities than ever before.

“These are amongst our best ever results and confirm St Christopher’s Sixth Form as a centre of excellence.

“Our students deserve all the praise and acclaim that they will receive and I wish them well, they are a wonderful group of young people.

“I also want to highlight the dedication and expertise of our talented teachers who have guided and nurtured them through their time at St Christopher’s.

“We are passionate about raising levels of aspiration and encouraging pupils to aim high and these results confirm that we are doing our job really well.”

Accrington Academy’s Sixth Form has achieved another excellent set of results with over three-quarters of A Level entries achieving A*-C grades, with 41 per cent achieving A*-B.

This success at A Level has been matched by those students studying vocational courses, with over 90 per cent of entries achieving Distinction* grades.

Andy O’Brien, Principal of Accrington Academy, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with these results, which are a further improvement in all areas on last year’s strong results and concrete proof that the academy’s Sixth Form is indeed going from ‘strength to strength,’ as highlighted by Ofsted in its March inspection.

“Congratulations go to our students and staff, whose hard work and commitment has once again paid dividends.”

Among those students celebrating their results are Amber Prestage who achieved A grades in Mathematics, English and History, Mehvish Mansha with A grades in Mathematics, Law and Religious Studies and Daniel Raven who achieved A*, A* and C in Business Studies, Mathematics and Economics respectively.

All three students will progress onto their first choice universities.
