Police are hunting two women after an elderly man had £1,000 in cash stolen from his pocket in a bookmakers.
The 83-year-old local man withdrew the money from Halifax bank on Union Street and was followed.
Inside nearby Coral bookmakers the pensioner was approached by two women who distracted him by asking questions about the betting procedures before removing an envelope full of cash from his inside jacket pocket and leaving.
Police said the victim only discovered the theft after the offenders left the shop.
An investigation is continuing into the incident between 3pm and 3.35pm on December 2.
Cops have issued CCTV images of two women they are keen to identify in connection with the offence.
PC Martyn Beverley said: "The offenders are described as being possibly Romanian in appearance with dark hair, wearing scarves around their neck and lower faces. It is believed they were in the company of two men."
"This man has been followed and deliberately targeted and I’d ask people to take a close look at the women pictured in the CCTV images and if anybody recognises them I would urge them to contact Lancashire Police on 101."
