Police are appealing for information following a spate of burglaries in Hyndburn.

Thieves have struck at three different houses in Rishton, Accrington and Oswaldtwistle.

Officers investigating the break-ins don't think the incidents are linked.

Between 1am and 9am on Saturday, February 2 raiders forced their way into a home on Trinity Street, Oswaldtwistle while an elderly couple were asleep.

They snatched £21 in cash and a purse after breaking in through the front door which hadn't been locked.

Thieves also struck at Burton Street, Rishton between 6pm and 7pm on Saturday, February 2.

They pinched a 32 inch LCD TV and some cash from the insecure terrace house. No one was in at the time.

Hyndburn inspector Catherine Platt also said that burglars raided a home on Hopwood Street, Accrington between 2pm on Tuesday, January 29 and 4pm on Wednesday, January 30.

The home was temporarily unoccupied and undergoing renovation.

Insp Platt said: "Two drills were stolen and some tools worth around £115 in total. They had got in through the kitchen window."

She added: "We are actively encouraging people to check property is secure, even if they are only leaving it for a short period of time.

"It doesn't take long for an opportunist theft to occur. We are not linking the crimes at present."
