An ‘infidelity index’ has revealed Hyndburn tops the county for the most extra-marital affairs.

There are 1,148 people cheating on their partners in Accrington and Great Harwood, according to the ‘official infidelity index 2016’, hosted by dating website Illicit Encounters.

The Illicit Encounters site, set up more than 10 years ago, for married people ‘looking for romance outside their current relationship’.

Their interactive map states that in Accrington alone there are 870 people cheating, second only to Blackburn with 984, while there are 278 people having an affair in Great Harwood. By contrast there are apparently only 432 people committing infidelity in Burnley.

The figures for both towns are on the rise from 2015, with Accrington rising by eight so far, and Great Harwood up by 18.

The Illicit Encounters website states that The Infidelity Index uses data from almost one million postcodes to show how many people are having affairs in each area.

It says: “The results are based solely on the data from IllicitEncounters.com and are therefore only a reflection.”
