PEOPLE turned out in their droves to pay tribute to clubman Norman Parkinson who died suddenly last month.

More than 300 people packed in to King Street Pub for a concert in memory of "Parky" who was known for his unstinting work for charity and local club land.

Members of his family, including some of his grandchildren, were among the audience who helped raise £1,060 for the Meningitis Research Foundation, which was close to Norman's heart. Over the years he has raised thousands of pounds for research into the disease which struck two of his grandchildren.

On the bill were artistes Pauline Pennell, Gavin Young, Mark Walton and the group Vivid, and the funds were boosted by a raffle for a host of prizes donated by wellwishers.

Kingstreet owner David Clay said: "It must have been a very emotional night for Parky's family and we were pleased that so many people turned up to pay tribute to such a hard-working and charitable man.

"He was a nice fellow and everyone who knew him would say the same thing. He worked hard here as entertainments secretary and was a die-hard clubman. The support he gave to local charities was superb."
