A MAN is still fighting for his life in hospital after supposedly taking insulin.

The man, who is from Clayton-le-Moors, and a friend were taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital after using the drug, which police believe is being sold in10ml ampoules on the black market.

Police described the man, who is in his 30s, as in a critical condition and "very seriously ill".

The friend was released from hospital shortly after receiving treatment.

Police are continuing to investigate the death of grandfather Shane Raeburn, 44, of Barnes Street, Clayton-le-Moors, who died in the early hours of 28 November.

They are re-examining his death after a post-mortem investigation proved inconclusive, and his two friends were taken to hospital and treated for using insulin.

It is thought insulin is used by body builders as a quick and easy way to build muscle.

However, police are urging people not to take the drug unless it is prescribed to them as it can be lethal.

Insulin is used for treatment of diabetes to control blood sugar levels.

A 40-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, both from Clayton-le-Moors, and a 19-year-old man from Accrington have been arrested and released on police bail pending further inquries in connection with the case.

If anyone has information they are asked to contact Blackburn police on 51212 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
