A teenager showed plenty of pluck by shaving her head to raise funds for four different charities.

Sixteen-year-old Lauren Hayhurst had her long locks shorn off at a charity event at Tricky’s in Oswaldtwistle earlier this month.

Her mum Julie said she was incredibly proud of her daughter for having all of her hair chopped off, emulating her hero, pop star Jessie J.

She said: “Lauren has had the idea of doing a head shave for a while now.

“She wanted to do it earlier in the year, but she changed her mind as she wanted to have her hair for her prom night.

“She’s done really well, she went through with it and she doesn’t seem to regret it so far.

“Jessie-J is one of her idols, and she wanted to do something to help other people.

“She took part in the Race for Life last year. She’s raised around £800.”

Lauren, who lives on Apple Tree Way and attends St Wilfred’s CE Academy in Blackburn, chose to raise cash for four charities, Cancer Research, the Stroke Association, Great Ormond Street Children’s hospital and the Make a Wish Foundation.

Julie said: “She wanted to raise funds for the Stroke Association for her grandma who died ten years ago.”

Local hairdresser Emma Jones carried out the cut at the fundraising event on August 9.
