JOBS at struggling Fraser Eagle hang in the balance as the company goes into administration.

The long-established travel company called in the receivers on Wednesday – just two weeks after it laid off 50 staff and closed its Great Harwood car sales operation.

A spokesman said: "It’s a sad day for the company and it’s very upsetting for all concerned. The decision was not taken lightly.

"We have filed a notice of intention to go into administration but no administrator has been appointed at this time.

"Workers who have been laid off are still laid off and the rest of us are just waiting to see what happens next."

The company recently pulled out of its five-year sponsorship deal with Accrington Stanley in a bid to save its 170-strong work force. The deal – said to be worth £1M – saw the club’s ground renamed the Fraser Eagle Stadium in 2006, but this will cease at the end of the season.

Although its headquarters are now on the Shuttleworth Mead business park in Padiham, Fraser Eagle was established in Accrington and has been a well-known name in the borough for coach trips, a travel agency, car sales and rail replacement transport.

The administration affects Fraser Eagle Ltd, Fraser Eagle Property Holding Company and Fraser Eagle London.
