A talented school football team have taken Hyndburn by storm.

Huncoat Primary School have had a runaway success in the Hyndburn School Sport Partnership football championship, winning the league by six points.

The school took part in the competition for the first time this year and completed the season undefeated, with 12 wins and two draws.

David Strachan, PE subject leader at the school, congratulated the pupils on their achievement.

He said: “It’s the first time we have really got involved with the scheme. The lads have dominated a few games and on a few occasions have scored six or seven goals.

“They have played a really good passing and moving game.

“The parents have been down every single week cheering them on, it has been really nice.”

David said that he and headteacher Sean Crosier decided to enter the competition after a number of pupils impressed them in PE.

He said: “A few of our pupils were at professional academies, so we thought we would have a strong team. The lads have loved playing. They have really enjoyed themselves and they put the jersey on each week with a real sense of pride.”
