Hyndburn's MP says he will stand up and be counted after being told to ‘get back to Westminster’.
It comes after the borough’s new Labour group gave Graham Jones a 15-minute platform at future full council meetings.
The move has angered the Conservatives, who accused their rivals of giving the MP a soapbox at Tuesday’s AGM.
Conservative leader Peter Britcliffe said: "Go to Westminster and work for us there. Go and do your job. What are you doing here on a Tuesday night?
"For goodness sake leave us alone."
Councillor Marlene Haworth said: "We do not allow the public to speak so why should we allow him?
"We have enough business to get through in Hyndburn without our local MP using this special chamber as a political podium."
Future council meetings are to be held on Thursdays. This will tie in with Mr Jones returning from London.
The MP, elected in May last year, says it his job to inform the public of parliamentary changes affecting the borough.
He added that the public and cou nty councillors will also be allowed to speak at future council meetings.
Mr Jones said: "I will only be speaking at two or three meetings a year about important issues that affect the borough.
"The MP should be accountable for the well-being of the borough."
Labour council leader Miles Parkinson said: "Very few MPs across the country will be so dedicated to their borough and the council. I would be extremely proud of the MP, whatever his political persuasion, if he came to the chamber. It's something we should be proud of."
