A HUMAN shield from Accrington has been in London this week to continue his protest against war with Iraq.

Dieter Seager, of Washington Street, spent three weeks in Jordan as part of Operation Human Shield, a peace mission to protect innocent Iraqi civilians if war broke out.

But the 28-year-old returned to England last week after he was unable to travel into Baghdad. He is currently staying with friends in London but said he may return to the Middle East.

His 22-year-old nephew, Lance Bombardier Steven Dixon, whose father lives in Bold Street, Accrington, is still in the Gulf preparing to fight.

Dieter, a former care worker, said he returned with five other protesters, although many others were staying in Jordan.

He said: "It was mostly a lack of money that made me come back - and the hope that I could do something more here. It was a hard decision to make, especially as there are still people out there. I never actually went into Iraq although I did have a visa. I was more useful in the offices, setting up Internet connections.

His mother, Jean, of Clarence Road, Accrington, said she hoped to be reunited with Dieter in the next few weeks.
