A car with three people collided with a lamp-post and bollards this afternoon in Accrington.

The incident happened near the entrance to Oakhill Park on Manchester Road shortly after 1pm.

No one was injured during the smash but the elderly male driver and his wife were taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for check-ups.

The blue Volkswagen was damaged and council workers and police worked to clear debris from the road.

A passer-by said the lamp-post had been knocked down in the smash.

A recovery team arrived at the scene at 1.30pm on Friday, October 1 to remove the car which was in the central reservation area of the road.

A police spokeswoman said: "There was no other vehicle involved. For whatever reason it has collided with the central reservation area and a lamp-post."
