A man who cashed in hundreds of pounds worth of winning betting slips from a lost wallet is being hunted by police.

Police were alerted on September 21 after the victim lost his wallet in Accrington town centre, and then found his betting slips, worth £350, had been cashed.

CCTV images of a man police want to speak to in connection with the incident have now been released.

PC Jason Manning said: “It is quite a cheeky offence.

“If a normal member of the public found a wallet then they would see if there was anything to identify the owner and try to return it or take it to a police station.

“To cash in betting slips you have to check the results and see if they have come in.

“Not only that, the slips were cashed in two separate shops, as the first did not have enough cash in the float to pay.

“After someone has picked up a wallet and doesn’t give it back or try to hand it in, it is an offence.”

PC Manning added: “The betting shops have released CCTV to us and we are now appealing to the public to see if they recognise the man pictured.”

The betting slips were cashed at William Hill shops in High Street, Rishton and Accrington Road, Blackburn.
