A DRAMATIC stand-off with police lasted for 17 hours when a man climbed onto the roof of a terraced house.
Police cordoned off Heywood Street, Great Harwood, when they arrived at the scene around 5am on Tuesday.
Despite wind and rain, the man remained on the roof until 10pm.
Neighbours were woken by shouting from the rooftop.
Inspector Stuart Bruce said when police reached the scene with a warrant, the man fled to the roof from inside the house via a skylight.
He had a mobile phone and was seen talking on it throughout the ordeal. He regularly shouted to pedestrians and drank from a bottle, but refused to speak to officers.
When he finally came down he was arrested and questioned by police.
POLICE confirmed yesterday that Timothy Bolchover, 21, of no fixed address, has been charged with rape. He was due to appear at Hyndburn Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning.
