AN ACCRINGTON man has died after he is believed to have jumped from the top of the town's shopping centre car park.

The 52-year-old man, who has not be named, died at the scene, near to Accrington Arndale Centre's service entrance and police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

The man had the keys to a Ford Mondeo, seen here, in his possession, which police were able to use to find his car parked on level six -  the top level of car park.
He is believed to have been alone at the time of his death and police are investigating witness reports that the man jumped.

Officers have traced his next of kin who have asked for privacy.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene around 11.10am on Monday but were too late to help the man.

This is the second person who has fell to their death from the top floor of the car park within a year.

Shoppers who were in the area said they were shocked to hear of the incident which happened just yards away.

Adam Baccino, 28, of Steiner Street, Accrington said: "It's crazy. They should put up some sort of safety barrier. These people will give Accrington a bad name.

"The recession is probably to blame. The government is too busy spending millionsof pounds funding wars, to help all the businesses that are closing."

A female shopper, who saw the commotion at the scene said: "My daughter's ex-boyfriend is threatening to do the same and is cutting his wrists.

"He's on drugs and is paranoid. I know there's no work which can be very depressing, because I have been looking myself."
