A man has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act after being talked down from a motorway bridge.
The M65 was closed in both directions at around 10.30pm on Friday, January 2 after police were called to the bridge between junction six and seven near Clayton-le-Moors.
Lancashire Police said negotiators arrived at the scene shortly after and the man was talked down by 11.10pm.
A spokesman said: “Somebody reported to us that they had seen a man on the bridge over the eastbound carriageway.
“Both carriageways were closed off and a helicopter and ambulance were called on standby.
“The man was described as being in his 20s and wearing dark clothing and the motorway was fully closed by 10.40pm.
“By 11.10pm the man was negotiated to come off the bridge and by 11.25pm traffic was flowing normally in both directions.”
Police said the man was taken to Burnley Hospital and has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
