A man who BIT the cheek of a baby has been warned he could face jail.

James George, of Cartmel Avenue, Accrington, pleaded guilty at Burnley Crown Court to ABH following the incident in February this year.

He has now been granted conditional bail to appear at the court for sentence on Friday, August 19.

The court heard how George, 27, has been diagnosed with ‘emotionally unstable personality disorder’.

Jane Dagnall, defending, said: “I have spoken with Mr George at some length and we have a psychiatric report which we’ve had for about a week now.

"I’m going to ask for a pre-sentence report.”

The court heard how the baby was left with a ‘big bruise’ to the right cheek and cuts.

Judge Beverley Lunt said: “I will want to know if [the baby] has fully recovered.”

Addressing George in the dock, she said: “You must understand this is a very serious incident and I will be considering a prison sentence for the injury to this tiny child.

“But I will consider all the reports that are written about you.”
