Police are hunting a thug who broke a man’s cheekbone and jaw in an ‘unprovoked attack’ outside Accrington Town Hall.
The 21-year-old victim was walking home at around 1am when he saw a man and a woman arguing.
As he passed them, the man suddenly punched the victim three times which caused him to fall to the ground.
The victim suffered a broken cheekbone and jaw and has since had to have metal plates and pins fitted.
PC Jo Galeski said he was left shaken by the assault and is now recovering at home.
She said: "This is a serious and unprovoked attack on an innocent member of the public and the person responsible needs to be caught and brought to justice.
"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the assault or may have information about who the attacker was to come forward and contact the police."
The incident happened just after 1am on Sunday, July 15 outside the town hall on Blackburn Road.
Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call Accrington police on 101. People can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or on the website www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
