A WIFE has spoken of her anger and humiliation after she was dumped on Facebook.

Emma Brady found out her six-year marriage was over when her husband posted a message on the social networking site.

It simply said: “Neil Brady has ended his marriage to Emma Brady.”

Emma, 39, of Dent Dale, Accrington, first learned her 12-year relationship was over when her best friend from Denmark phoned to see if she was okay.

The conference manager and mum-of-one said: “We were like any other couple. We had our ups and downs but as far as I knew things were fine between us.

“When I got the phone call I was shell-shocked. My first instinct was to phone him but my friends at work insisted I should speak to him face to face.

“When I got home I asked Neil if he had anything to tell me and he simply said no. He acted like everything was fine.

“This whole thing has been really terrible. All the friends I have on the site are people I have known for years so it’s been really humiliating having everything happen so publicly.

“The irony is if he had just asked me for a divorce I would have agreed because I would never have wanted to make him unhappy.”

The bizarre way to end a marriage was revealed at Blackburn Magistrates Court, which heard the tensions between the couple came to a head after they had both been out with colleagues at Christmas.

In the row that followed Emma suffered a wrist injury as she was thrown out of the house wearing only her dressing gown and locked out in the back garden.

IT consultant Brady, 39, of Southwood Drive, Baxenden, pleaded guilty to assaulting her and was fined £580 and ordered to pay £100 compensation and £75 costs.

Emma had gone to bed when she got home but was woken when Brady threw a glass of red wine over her. When she started stripping the bed he threw the mattress downstairs so she got a blanket to sleep on the settee.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, told the court: “He claimed a police officer had seen her with another man in Accring-ton and when she told him to contact her manager and ask where she had been he accused her of having an affair with him.”

Brady took his wife’s handbag and started to search for her mobile phone which she refused to give him.

“He grabbed her by the wrist and threw her out of the back door and locked it,” said Miss Allan.

Gareth Price, defending, said his client claimed he had spoken to his wife several times and suggested a separation and rejected her claim that the first she knew of it was on Facebook.

“They are not just partners in marriage but partners in business and he was keen to try and arrange the most amicable separation that he could so the business could survive,” said Mr Price.

“The relationship became more and more strained as he thought she was drinking too much and he became convinced she was being unfaithful.”

Emma said: “I just hope  that we can now both move on with our lives. Once we sell the house and the business hopefully our paths will not cross again.”
