Masked carjackers were foiled after trying to drag a driver out of his car in the early hours of this morning.

Two men wearing balaclavas approached the male driver parked in a Seat Leon Cupra on Princess Street in Church before trying to pull him out. Police said the victim managed to fight off the offenders before they fled the scene in a Peugeot 308.

The incident happened shortly after midnight on Wednesday, June 8.

No arrests have yet been made.

Inspector John Fryer said: “One of our patrols was flagged down by a member of the public at 12.03am who said two men in balaclavas had tried to carjack him.

“He was stationary in a blue Seat Leon Cupra and they have tried to drag him out of the vehicle onto the street in order to steal his car.

“He managed to fight them off and they drove off in another car.

“It must have been quite a frightening experience for him. The aggrieved described their vehicle as a dark Peugeot 308.”

Inspector Fryer said there was no suggestion weapons were used. Anyone with information call police on 101 quoting log number 002 of June 8.
