A nursery in Great Harwood has been officially opened by the Mayor of Hyndburn.

Early Baird’s nursery is a new business venture by Heidi Baird, who has worked in the childcare industry since 2005. Dozens of parents, children and local dignitaries packed out the nursery on Orchard Street for the opening event with Mayor John Broadley and his wife cutting the ribbon.

Children and parents got into the fun spirit by dressing up in children’s characters like Scooby Doo, taking part in various activities and playing with toys and play-doh.

Owner Heidi, 35, said it was a “brilliant day” and is excited by the new challenge. She said: “It went really well.

“The Mayor and the town crier came down and the place was jam packed. The children got to see what it would be like on a typical day and there was lots of nibbles.

“I just want to thank my dad Ivor and uncle Brian for all the work they have done.”

The nursery, which has been officially registered with Ofsted, opened last week with seven children on the books.

Heidi, who was born and raised in Great Harwood, said they have many more children expected to start in June and July.

The mum-of-one has previously worked in other nurseries and private daycare centres across Great Harwood, Blackburn and Whalley and said the new business will create several new jobs.
