Snow and icy conditions are causing havoc for motorists this morning.
The A56 Accrington bypass is closed northbound between the Rising Bridge Roundabout and M65 Junction 8 at Huncoat after two HGVs got stuck in the snow.
Congestion is trailing back to the B6527 Manchester Road (Bent Gate Roundabout) and is affecting traffic between the M65 and Edenfield.
North West Motorway Police said the roads are ‘treacherous’ on both carriageways and are advising people to ‘avoid the area if possible’.
Lancashire Police have also warned motorists travelling along Elton Road, Grane Road and Manchester Road in Baxenden to beware of snow.
Rosso Bus said their 244 service is not serving Belthorn village and the 401 is not serving Staghills Road at Newchurch.
There is also no 463 service due to road conditions on Pennine Road in Bacup.
Transdev Burnley said their Service 9 is delayed due to the accident on the A56 and ‘traffic flow is heavier than normal towards Accrington’.
Police Inspector John Fryer said accidents have also been reported on Free Lane in Helmshore after cars slid down the icy road and crashed into parked cars.
