GLOBAL warming was a hot topic of debate when Hyndburn’s MP Greg Pope helped organise a meeting on climate change.
The event, which was organised with Hyndburn’s branch of the Friends of the Earth, saw around 50 people going to Accrington Library to listen to several thought-provoking speakers.
Among them was MP Phil Woolas, who is behind the Climate Change Bill which will go through the House of Commons in January, and Darren Young of Friends of the Earth.
Mr Pope said: “I was delighted that so many people came to a public meeting on a cold night in November and it was a great success.
“Phil spoke passionately about the need for us all to play our part in tackling climate change and then took questions for an hour.
“I was pleased to be able to organise the event jointly with Friends of the Earth and I think it signalled the need for a less confrontational approach to politics.
“People of different political backgrounds, as well as those with none, came together to exchange ideas about one of the most important issues facing us all. It was really constructive.”
