A new state-of-the-art 3G pitch is set to be unveiled.
The new pitch at Hyndburn Leisure Centre will be officially opened on Saturday, March 21 thanks to funding from Sport England and Hyndburn Borough Council.
A series of activities will be on offer on the day with residents encouraged to go down to the centre and join in.
Work began on the £330,000 project in September last year, which saw the old sand-based astroturf and fencing ripped out and replaced with the new FIFA-rated surface.
Hyndburn council leader Coun Miles Parkinson said the pitches were “great news for Hyndburn”.
He added: “Many residents will benefit from this facility. Our Playing Pitch Strategy identified a shortage of quality artificial pitches in Hyndburn which is why we have invested in this pitch”.
Graham Jones MP was equally delighted to be opening the pitch.
He said: “The old pitch had become unplayable and we need quality facilities in Hyndburn to encourage more people young and old to take part in sport and physical activity”.
Andy Couves, Sport England’s Programme Lead, said: “Sports facilities are a vital part of grassroots sport and we know people have a better experience of sport when they can play in good quality facilities.
“The investment being made into Hyndburn Leisure Centre through our Improvement Fund will make a big difference to community sport and will ensure people and teams have a place to get active and enjoy sport all year round.”
The facility is now open for use and available to hire 9am to 10pm weekdays and 9am to 5pm weekends.
