A ceremony will take place this weekend to commemorate the new Hyndburn Mayor.

Oswaldtwistle councillor Marlene Haworth has taken over the reins from Munsif Dad and will be joined by her deputy Mayor councillor Tom O’Kane.

The Mayor-making ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 30 with a parade from Accrington Town Hall at 11.30am followed by a service at St James’ Church at 11.45am. Coun Haworth was unanimously voted into the post at Hyndburn council’s annual general meeting last week.

She told the meeting: “I would like to thank all of you for entrusting this very important and prestigious position to me.

“I understand fully what’s expected of me in this Mayoral year and I promise that I will do my best and never let any of you down.

“Wherever I go throughout the year and whoever I meet I will always be talking up this wonderful borough of Hyndburn.

“Munsif has done a fantastic job for the last year and I take this opportunity to thank him for the dedication and hard work which he has done as Mayor. It’s been a privilege and a pleasure working alongside you.”
