STAR pupil Niall Gibson is every teacher's dream - he hasn't taken a single day off school in seven years.

The 11-year-old was presented with a special award after not once calling in sick in all his time at St Nicholas's Primary School, Church.

He added: "I think it is absolutely remarkable - it is a wonderful achievement. No-one else has managed it in the 15 years I've been here. I've only heard of it happening in any school once before.

"We give out awards for full attendance every year and it's rare for children in reception to win them. But Niall managed it - he got an award every year.

"We were fairly confident he would do it again this time. There have been some days when he has come in looking a little under the weather but he was determined to do this."

Mr Walker added that eight other pupils, including Niall's sister Grace, received prizes for full attendance over the past school year.

After enjoying a well-earned break this summer, Niall, whose favourite subjects are maths, games and science, said he would try to repeat his achievement when he starts at St Christopher's High School, Accrington, in September.
