A swan caused traffic chaos after landing on Broadway. Former Observer photographer Garth Dawson snapped this picture in April 1974.

He says people were frightened of approaching the angry bird after it impeded traffic, all except a brave traffic warden.

He added: “The traffic warden did not give a parking ticket to a swan which landed on the road!”

Its election season, with the fight for Lancashire County Council seats taking place next month. So Garth unearthed this picture of the election of new MP Arthur Davidson in 1966.

Mr Davidson is pictured in the centre of the shot after the votes were tallied at Accrington Town Hall.

Garth says Mr Davidson was MP for a number of years for Labour and was very easy to get on with.

He said: “The count was always held at the town hall for the Accrington elections, of course it’s Hyndburn and Haslingden now.”

Our final photo this week shows glamorous models showing off bridal gowns and bridesmaids dresses.
