FOUR men charged with the murder of an Oswaldtwistle man have been remanded in custody to await trial in September.

The body of 26-year-old Alan Street was found after being dumped in a culvert in Accrington.

Police believe he was killed at a house in Padiham last December.

Kieron Davison, 20, of Stockbridge Road, Padiham, Ian Palmer, 45, of Whitegate Close, Padiham, and Peter Leonard, 51, formerly of Arncliffe Avenue, Accrington, and currently of no fixed address, all pleaded not guilty to murder when they appeared at Preston Crown Court.

The fourth defendant Allan Palmer, 44, also of Stockbridge Road, Padiham, did not enter any plea at last Friday's hearing.

A trial date was set for 14 September by Judge Anthony Russell QC.

Mr Street was a registered sex offender having been convicted of rape in 1999.

Five others also face charges in connection with his death.

They are accused of assisting an offender, and the case against them was also adjourned.
