An Altham company which produced athletics facilities used by Olympic athletes is celebrating its 35th anniversary in business.

Thornton Contracts was established in 1978 as a specialist contractor in sports surfaces and pitches.

The Altham Industrial Estate firm became part of the Thornton Sports group in 2005 and has since worked on high-profile complexes such as the London 2012 athletics arena, a multi-million pound facility for Harrow School in London and training facilities for Lancashire Football Association.

Managing director David Saxby said it was an achievement to reach the 35-year mark.

He said: “Our experience enables us to offer clients innovative design solutions and deliver the highest performance facilities in an efficient manner.”
