A CHARITY fund-raiser is appealing for sponsorship after signing up to run in the New York Marathon.
Jean Leecy, a sales administrator, of Newton Street, Oswaldtwistle, is set to travel to the American city on 4 November. The gruelling training involves three runs a week, of between five and 20 miles, and two trips to the gym.
Jean, 42, who only started running last October, is set to pound the New York streets on behalf of Get Kids Going, a charity that gives disabled children and young people the opportunity of participating in sports.
The money raised will go toward providing specially-built sports wheelchairs. Each wheelchair costs around £3,200.
In April Jean ran in the London Marathon and raised an impressive £1,700 for Wellchild, an organisation providing care and support for sick children and their families.
Jean said: "I really want to make a difference. I want to be able to raise as much money as possible to help the organisation."
Jean, who is a member of Accrington Road Runners, is keen to attract the sponsorship of local businesses and intends to place the logos of supporting companies on her running shirt.
