An out of school club in Rising Bridge has been branded ‘inadequate’ by education watchdogs.

Stonefold Sharks, which operates from St John Stonefold CE School and caters for 62 early years children, has been found to be inadequate in three key areas by Ofsted.

In a report published last month inspectors Ofsted inspector Linda Shore said: “The manager and staff have insufficient knowledge and understanding of the Statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

“Consequently, there are breaches of the learning, development and welfare requirements, which have a negative impact on children’s progress and welfare. Staff are not adequately supporting children’s learning and development by complementing their learning at school.

“The management team has not established a program of appraisals and supervision of staff.

“This results in a lack of support, coaching and monitoring of staff performance and practice, with too little focus on supporting children’s learning and development.”

The report did however praise child care scheme for providing a safe environment. Inspector Linda Shore added: “Staff provide a safe and welcoming environment, which helps children to relax.” Stonefold Sharks could not be contacted for comment.
