Hundreds turned out to celebrate Hyndburn Mela last weekend.

Oakhill Park hosted the popular festival last Saturday and there were a range of fun activities for the family.

Three bands from Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School opened the event, followed by dance acts including RM Fusion and Fearless and rockers Luva Gunk.

Accrington’s Lion Dancing troupe also had two performances on the day and the headline act was Nasir Khan, a Burnley-based singer.

Throughout the day there were a host of creative workshops and sporting activities, plus numerous tasty food stalls.

This year the committee of volunteers produced the festival with just £6,000 after they failed to gain Arts Council England funding due to Government cuts.

Gayle Knight, who helped organise the Mela, said: "It went really well. The weather sadly didn’t hold off and people got a bit wet towards the end but they still turned out."

Preparation is already underway for next year’s event. If you would like to help organise next year’s festival call Gayle on: 07767 383435.
