Parts of Hyndburn fell victim to this month’s spate of flash floods across Lancashire, following heavy downpours yesterday evening.
Businesses were hit as the main High Street in Rishton became like a “river”, while a ‘waist-high’ wall of water flooded into former mayor of Hyndburn Paul Barton’s home.
Ex-councillor Barton said water poured through his yard and into the Spring Street home he lets to a tenant.
He said: “The water was up over my knees and up to waist height. It will have cost at least £10,000 worth of damage. It will need a new bathroom suite and kitchen.”
Fire services confirmed they received callouts to a flooded living room on Springhill Road, Accrington at 4.30pm, and a flooded pub cellar of the Roebuck Inn at 4.45pm on Thursday.
Great Harwood was also affected with Queen Street and Blackburn Road hit by floods.
