A BUS passenger was taken to hospital with suspected spinal injuries after a crash involving a bus and a Range Rover in the heart of Accrington town centre.

The collision occurred on Blackburn Road at the junction with Eagle Street at about 4.45pm last Friday.

Part of the road had already been closed due to the Lancashire Food Festival, with traffic being diverted on alternative routes.

Punters drinking in the Railway pub gathered outside after hearing two loud bangs.

Bus passenger Dennis Bolton said his three-year-old daughter Milly was lucky not to be injured after they had both stood up to get off the bus.

Dennis, of Higher Peel Street, Oswaldtwistle, said: "We pressed the button for it to stop, we both stood up and heard an almighty thud.

"She went flying and landed on the floor. She could have really hurt herself."

A 39-year-old man was treated at the Royal Blackburn Hospital for whiplash.
